Aldona MLA slams police over rising dacoity cases, demands CM’s response
MAPUSA: Following yet another dacoity reported in the state on Tuesday, Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira strongly criticised the police department for failing to ensure public safety in Goa and demanded that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant respond to the surge in such incidents.
Ferreira said one person was hospitalised and others sustained injuries in the latest attack. He declared that law and order in the state has collapsed and squarely blamed the South Goa SP for the incident.
“Seven dacoits armed with weapons and rods attacked a family living in a flat at Baina in the early hours of Tuesday. First there was a dacoity at Dona Paula, then in Mapusa, and now in residential flats. What is happening in Goa? We keep hearing the refrain ‘Bhivpachi garaz na’, but are Goans truly safe? People will now have to think twice about the security of their homes,” Ferreira said.
The Congress MLA alleged that police officers are failing in their duties and that competent officials are being sidelined. “Good officers are being pushed aside. The police are not doing their job. It’s a complete failure. I blame the SP of South Goa—he is a failure. I am making this statement responsibly. Law and order is collapsing, and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant must answer for this,” he said.
Ferreira further warned that such incidents are damaging Goa’s reputation. “The situation is grim. It is unsafe for residents, unsettling for visitors, and harmful for tourism. These crimes are tarnishing the state’s image. Law and order collapsing under the BJP government is a tragedy for Goa,” he said.
He also criticised the lack of progress in the Mapusa dacoity case. “In the Mapusa case, police claimed they had apprehended an accused in Karnataka and brought him to Goa. But what happened after that? If the case was solved, why haven’t they tracked down the other accused and their links? If they said these suspects were involved in both the Dona Paula and Mapusa cases, then who was behind the Baina attack? This clearly shows the police have made no progress. They make headlines, but in court the case collapses to zero,” Ferreira added.
