Goa, India – November 1, 2025: NorthEast United FC edged past FC Goa two goals to one at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, in an intense final group-stage clash of the Super Cup 2025. Despite the defeat, FC Goa had already secured their place in the semi-finals, while NorthEast ended their campaign on a high with a determined performance built on discipline and sharp finishing.
The first half was a tightly contested affair, with Goa dominating possession but struggling to find a breakthrough. NorthEast United remained compact in defence, frustrating the hosts and limiting them to shots from distance. Both sides went into the break locked at nil-nil after a cagey opening forty-five minutes.
The second half brought the game to life. In the sixty-eighth minute, Chema Núñez gave NorthEast United the lead with a well-placed finish following a quick transition that caught Goa off guard. The goal shifted the momentum, forcing the home side to step up their intensity.

The Gaurs looked to build on that momentum, but their joy was short-lived as Robin Yadav struck in the seventy-seventh minute to restore NorthEast’s lead with a composed finish from close range.
The final ten minutes saw FC Goa throw everything forward in search of a second equaliser. The Gaurs pushed numbers into attack, keeping NorthEast pinned deep in their half and creating several dangerous moments in front of goal. However, despite relentless pressure and sustained possession, they couldn’t find a way past a resolute Highlanders’ defence that stood tall to protect their narrow lead.
NorthEast United held firm until the final whistle, showcasing defensive discipline and composure to claim a well-earned victory. FC Goa, meanwhile, will take lessons from the defeat but also find comfort in the fact that they had already secured progression
