FIR Registered Against PSI Nilesh Shirvoikar in Custodial Assault Case

The Margao Town Police have filed an FIR against PSI Nilesh Shirvoikar in connection with a custodial assault incident that occurred on October 22. The case involves Edberg Pereira, a 37-year-old resident of Navelim, who was taken into custody for creating a public disturbance near Rosary College.

According to the police, Pereira became violent at the police station and fell, sustaining a head injury. However, Pereira’s version of events differs, alleging assault by the police. A preliminary inquiry and review of CCTV footage led to PSI Shirvoikar’s suspension, and further investigation is currently underway.

The FIR against Shirvoikar has been registered under Sections 115(2) and 198 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the facts surrounding the incident ¹.
