Panaji, October 21: In a press conference held in panaji, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced the countdown to the FIDE Chess World Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in Goa from October 30 to November 27.
Dr. Sawant emphasized the significance of hosting the FIDE World Cup in Goa, highlighting the state’s rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality. “Goa is an ideal destination for international events, and we’re confident that the FIDE World Cup will be a huge success,” he said. Sports Minister Shri Ramesh Tawadkar added that the event would not only showcase Goa’s beauty but also provide a platform for local chess talent to shine.
Sports Minister, Shri. Ramesh Tawadkar, Chief Secretary, Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS, President of All India Chess Federation, Shri. Nitin Narang, Secretary for All India Chess Federation, Shri. Dev Patel, President for Goa Chess Federation, Shri. Mahesh Candolkar, Director, Sports, Dr. Ajay Gaude were also present.
The FIDE World Cup 2025 promises to be a thrilling spectacle, featuring a lineup of chess giants, including World Champion D Gukesh, Magnus Carlsen, and Fabiano Caruana. With 206 players competing for a prize pool of $2 million and three spots in the 2026 Candidates Tournament, the stakes are high.
President of the All India Chess Federation, Shri Nitin Narang, expressed his excitement about hosting the event in Goa, saying, “This is a proud moment for Indian chess, and we’re committed to delivering a world-class event that reflects the passion of our fans and the professionalism of our federation.”
