Goa bowl out Odisha for 199 Deep Kasvankar claims 6 for 36
Sanguem: Goa made a strong start on the opening day of their Colonel C.K. Nayudu Trophy Elite (Under-23, four-day) match against Odisha at the GCA ground in Cotarli, Sanguem, on Tuesday. Goa bowled out the visitors for 199 in 59.2 overs and reached 65 for 1 in 27 overs at stumps. Off-spinner Deep Kasvankar was the architect of Goa’s dominance, claiming six wickets for just 36 runs.
After winning the toss, Odisha elected to bat first. Openers Ayush Sutar (39) and Panakala Sasanka (53) provided a solid start, adding 82 runs in 18.2 overs. However, Deep Kasvankar broke the opening partnership by dismissing Sutar, triggering a collapse that left Odisha struggling at 112 for 5 within a few overs.
Contributions from the middle order and lower order helped Odisha approach the 200-run mark. Aashirwad Swain scored 33, Arpit Mohanty made 22, while Sayed Ahmed remained unbeaten on 23. Kasvankar bowled an impressive 15.2 overs, keeping the Odisha batters under pressure with his spin. Anuj Yadav supported him with two wickets, while Rahul Vishwakarma picked up one.
Goa, however, did not have the desired start with the bat. Opener Malhar Naik was dismissed for a duck in the fourth over. Sarthak Bhike, unbeaten on 32, and Shaantanu Nevagi, unbeaten on 31, then steadied the innings with an unbroken 60-run partnership for the second wicket.
At stumps, Goa were 65 for 1 in 27 overs, trailing Odisha’s first-innings total by 134 runs.
