Adv Carlos slams govt over never ending cash for jobs scams

Mapusa: The BJP government is one of nothing but scams and lawlessness, Adv Carlos Ferreira said on Friday pointing out how a man was duped into believing that he was appointed the Commissioner of Excise and even took charge of the post using a fake appointment letter.

“The only thing we hear are newer and newer levels of scams being propagated during the rule of the present BJP government. This is nothing but scams after scams. Even after so many months the cash for jobs scam has not come to an end. Have you ever heard of such a thing happening during Congress rule,” Adv Carlos said.

He pointed out how a man allegedly paid Rs 27-lakh to one Sankhwalkar who in turn, gave him an appointment letter to the post of Excise Commissioner.

“Now I don’t know if this person knows or doesn’t know, and how much he trusted this man. But according to what I’ve heard, this man has been in contact with Sankhwalkar since 2019. And since then he’s been promising him that he’ll make him an Awal Karkun, a mamladar, assistant commissioner. And finally he gave him an appointment letter of an excise commissioner,” Adv Carlos said.

“I don’t know how he expected to be an excise commissioner. He hadn’t given any application, he hadn’t answered any exam, how did he expect to become an excise commissioner? To top it all he went to the office and took charge of the post,” Adv Carlos observed.

“My question is, on whose name was and on whose authority did Sankhwalkar get the power to give such assurances? I heard that this man had also paid him via bank transactions. And Sankhwalkar is now on the run. As per what I’ve heard, he also promised this man’s sister of an accountant’s job in the PWD department and they paid 25 lakh for it!” he said.

“What is even going on? Is the cash for jobs scam not ending? This same Sankhwalkar has duped several people promising them that he’ll make them an excise inspector, assistant excise inspector,” he said.

“He’s been dropping names and taking money. I also heard that he was promising these very family plot of land and had taken 80 lakh and failed to deliver on the plot,” he said.

“The real question is will the police prosecute the big names who are behind this? Or will the people of influence be allowed to get away scot free?” he asked.
