Gandhi Jayanti Celebrated with Enthusiasm at Pernem Taluka Shiv Sena Office; Senior Citizens Honoured

The birth anniversaries of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Pernem Taluka Shiv Sena office. During a special event organized for the occasion, senior citizens from the community were honoured by dignitaries with a shawl and a memento. A large number of Shiv Sainiks and citizens from the taluka attended the ceremony, which began promptly at 11:00 AM.

Shailesh Gawas, North District Chief Sunil Santinezkar, Deputy Chief Adv. Arjun Gavandi, and Pernem Taluka Chief Diwakar Arolkar. Other office-bearers such as Yogesh Akhadkar, Bhagwan Salgaonkar, and SC Cell Chief Kamlakar Humraskar were also in attendance.

Ideals of Gandhiji and Shastriji Form the True Foundation of the Nation: Veteran Litterateur Dhruv Kudalkar
Speaking as the keynote speaker, veteran litterateur Dhruv Kudalkar lauded the historic contributions of both great leaders. He said, “It brings immense joy to celebrate the birth anniversaries of these two great sons of the nation—Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri—together today. In the pre-independence era, when the country was under subjugation, the ‘Do or Die’ slogan given by Gandhiji ignited a spark of revolution across the entire nation. It was this mass movement that ultimately compelled the British rulers to leave India, paving the way for the establishment of democracy in our country.” Recalling memories of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Kudalkar further stated, “The ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer) mantra given by Shastriji and the Swadeshi movement he initiated remain just as crucial today for making India self-reliant. While the entire world respects and honors Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and principles, it is a dark chapter in our nation’s history that, most unfortunately, the country’s first terrorist was the one who assassinated the Father of the Nation.”

Gandhiji’s Principles of ‘Truth and Non-violence’ Most Needed in the 21st Century: Kashinath Mayekar
Delivering the keynote address, State Secretary Kashinath Mayekar highlighted the contemporary relevance of Gandhiji’s philosophy. He said, “In today’s era of ‘fake news’ and the deluge of information, adhering to ‘Truth’—which implies honesty between one’s conscience and actions—is an act of immense courage. Gandhiji’s non-violence was not cowardice; rather, it represented the greatest inner strength in the world. Bapu’s belief that ‘an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind’ holds true today amidst the prevailing global tensions and personal animosity. Non-violence is not merely the refusal to take up arms; it is about harboring respect for others in our thoughts, speech, and actions.”

Paying Tribute to the Memory of Dighe Saheb
Social worker Adv. Shailesh Gavas extended his best wishes for the occasion to the senior citizens present. He paid humble tribute to the memory of the late Anand Dighe Saheb—a leader who instilled a sense of self-respect in the people of Maharashtra and took the Shiv Sena to the grassroots level—stating that he always looks to Dighe Saheb as an ideal while working on the Shiv Sena platform.

Adv. Arjun Gavandi delivered the welcome address, while Kamlakar Humraskar proposed the vote of thanks. Gauresh Pednekar anchored the event.
The entire program was a resounding success, made possible through the cooperation of Kamlakar Humraskar, and was highly appreciated by the citizens and Shiv Sainiks present.
