PWD Minister Kamat Proposes 2-Wheeler Ban on Porvorim Flyover After fatalties Within 2 Days of Opening
PORVORIM – On the lines of Atal Setu, the Public Works Department is proposing a complete ban on two-wheelers on the newly inaugurated Porvorim elevated flyover corridor, PWD Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat said. The decision is being considered after a fatal road accident claimed two lives within just two days of the corridor’s inauguration, while two others, including a minor girl, sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.The deceased have been identified as Sarvesh Vengurlekar (41), a two-wheeler rider, and Amita Salgaonkar. Their bodies have been shifted to GMC for post-mortem .Sources said the government is seriously reviewing safety measures on the 6-lane elevated corridor following the incident, with a ban on two-wheelers being considered as a precautionary step to prevent further accidents.
