Goa  Celebrated National Sports Day under ‘Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat’ Theme

Panaji, August 28, 2026: Marking National Sports Day with a celebration of sporting excellence and participation, the Government of Goa  organised  the National Sports Day celebration on saturday  at Campal Indoor Stadium under the theme ‘Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat’. The programme is being organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Goa, and Sports Authority of Goa, as part of the three-day National Sports Day Celebrations being held from August 28 to 30 across the State.

Highlighting sporting achievements and encouraging participation, the August 29 programme featured the National Sports Day Function and State Sports Cash Award Function, along with an exhibition on sports balls and the sports in which they are used. The day will also include a Table Tennis Tournament for students and a Quiz Competition for college students. Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant  graced  the National Sports Day programme as the Chief Guest also present were sports minister  Minister, Ramesh Tawadkar, Secretary (Sports), Shri Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS, Director of Sports and Youth, Dr. Ajay R. Gaude, & other dignitaries

Adding to the range of sporting activities, the August 29 programme also featured the Women’s Tie-Breaker Tournament, 2-km Walkathon, Paper Javelin Throw, Shot Put and the final of the Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament. The celebrations will conclude on August 30 with ‘Sunday on Cycles’, a 29-km cycle rally for Khelo India athletes and cycling enthusiasts, which will start and end at Peddem and pass through Ucassaim, Aldona, Mayem, Shirgao, Assonora and Tivim. Bringing together athletes, students and sports enthusiasts, the three-day programme provided opportunities for participation across different sporting disciplines while promoting fitness, discipline and greater engagement with sports. The celebrations aimed to encourage an active sporting culture and inspire people across Goa to embrace sports and physical activity.
