Fisheries Minister Halarnkar Offers Coconut to Sea, Ushering in New Fishing Season on Narali Poornima

PANAJI: Marking the auspicious festival of Narali Poornima, Minister for Fisheries  Nilkant Halarnkar offered a coconut to the Arabian Sea at Captain of Ports Jetty, Panaji, praying for the safety, prosperity and good fortune of Goa’s fishermen community.

The traditional ‘Nariyal Arpan’ ceremony was organized by the Department of Fisheries, Government of Goa, to mark the end of the monsoon fishing ban and the beginning of the new fishing season.

Extending his warm greetings, Minister Halarnkar said,  “Narali Poornima is a tribute to the sea, which sustains thousands of families. We pray for calm seas, safety of our fishermen and a bountiful catch.”He also said the government under Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant is committed to the welfare of the fishing community through various schemes.

Secretary Fisheries Shri Prasanna Acharya, IAS, Director Fisheries Dr. Shamila Monteiro, senior officials and representatives of fishermen associations were present on the occasion. Traditional puja of boats and fishing nets was also performed at the jetty.
