Rain Triggers Tree Falls in Mapusa; Fire Services Respond to Calls at Parra and Khorlim

Mapusa: Amid monsoon rains two incidents of tree falls were reported in Mapusa on Thursday, highlighting the risks posed by waterlogged soil and weak branches during the rainy season.

In the first incident at around 10:28 am, a large tamarind tree collapsed onto electrical wires near the football ground at Aradi, Parra, disrupting power supply in the area. Fire personnel from Mapusa Fire Station, led by Leading Firefighter Shri Prashant Shetgaonkar, rushed to the spot and cleared the tree. Hours later at 1:41 pm, a heavy branch of a tree came crashing down onto a parked car near Chintamani Plaza building at Khorlim.

The team led by SFO Shri Ganesh H. Govekar attended the call and carried out the necessary clearing work. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in either incident, but the cases have once again raised concerns over dangerous trees and branches that pose a threat during the monsoon.
