APK Scam: 66-Year-Old From Sangolda Loses ₹4.14 Lakh
SALIGAO: A 66-year-old resident of Morod-Sangolda lost ₹4,14,301 after he allegedly installed a malicious APK file sent by an unidentified person. According to Saligao Police, the complainant, Inacio Francisco Paulo Fernandes, was told that the file was required to “upgrade” his mobile phone. Shortly after opening it, his device became unresponsive, with only a small portion of the screen visible. During that time, five unauthorized transactions were carried out from his bank account without his knowledge or consent, resulting in a total loss of ₹4,14,301 .A cyber fraud complaint has been registered at Saligao Police Station. PSI Jugal Divkar is investigating the case. Police have urged citizens not to install APK files or apps received from unknown numbers and to avoid clicking on suspicious links. “Do not download any file or app from unverified sources. If your phone starts behaving unusually after installing something, contact your bank and police immediately,” an official advised.
