Goa’s Taleigao MLA and former Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate has passed away after a prolonged illness. She had been battling cancer for some time. She was the wife of Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate.
Jennifer Monserrate served as a three-term member of the Goa Legislative Assembly. She had represented the Taleigao constituency since 2012. In July 2019, she was inducted into Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s cabinet and was given charge of Revenue, Information Technology, Labour and Employment portfolios. Jennifer Monserrate was the only woman minister in the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet and was the first woman MLA elected from the Taleigao. In July 2019, Jennifer Monserrate was among the ten Congress MLAs who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.Meanwhile, the last ries will be performed in accordance with Hindu rituals as per her wishes. Public viewing and prayer servicesnwill be held on Monday (July 20).her mortal remains will be taken to St Inez Crematorium where cremation ceremony will be held on line with Hindu customs.
