GFDC distributes football kits to youngsters in Cuncolim
PANAJI: The Goa Football Development Council (GFDC), in association with the Youth of Cuncolim Sports Club, organised a football kit distribution ceremony at the Village Playground, Cuncolim. The event was attended by GFDC Member Secretary Fransquinha Oliveira, social worker Adv Raisa Alemao, Physical Education Teacher of R. M. Salgaocar Higher Secondary School (Margao) Girijadevi Narayan Desai, Coach Educator and Football Development Consultant Sham Mahadev Gauli, and President of Youth of Cuncolim and Centre Head of Cuncolim GFDC Manju Shirvant.
Oliveira congratulated the Youth of Cuncolim Sports Club for taking this wonderful initiative in collaboration with the GFDC.
“Football is not just a game in Goa, it is a way of life. Every child who wears a football jersey today is not just receiving a kit, but also an opportunity to dream, learn, and grow. These kits represent discipline, commitment, teamwork, and the confidence to pursue excellence. At GFDC, our mission is to identify and nurture young football talent in every corner of the state. We believe that every child, irrespective of their background, deserves quality coaching and the opportunity to develop their skills,” she said.
“I urge all the young players to make the best use of this opportunity. Wear this kit with pride, keep training regularly, respect your coaches, support your teammates, and always play with honesty and sportsmanship. Success comes from hard work, dedication, and perseverance,” Oliveira urged the young players.
She also praised the parents for encouraging their children to participate in sports. “Your support plays a vital role in shaping not only better footballers but also responsible and confident individuals. My sincere appreciation goes to the Youth of Cuncolim Sports Club for their commitment towards grassroots football. Let us continue working to strengthen grassroots football in Goa and create more opportunities for young talent,” she added.
Urging the young players to dedicate themselves to the sport, Gauli said, “Learn to dream and ensure that you achieve those dreams in the future. Practise well, come for training every day, and respect your coaches and parents. When you wear this jersey, you should feel proud and aspire to play football and rise through the ranks.”
He also spoke to the parents, noting, “This is not just an investment in sending your children to the ground. Ultimately, coaches spend their time here, which is a positive thing, and it all boils down to hard work and your efforts in ensuring your children come here.”
Emphasising the value of dedication, Desai remarked that hard work and discipline are the foundations of success.
“You are fortunate, as when we were your age, we never had such opportunities. GFDC did not exist at the time, but you have the council now to support you. You will need to put in hard work, stay dedicated and disciplined, and strive to be a good footballer. Bring laurels to our state and our country, and respect everyone, even on the field,” she told the young players.
