1975 Emergency Recalled at BJP Mapusa Event; Leaders Call It ‘Dark Chapter’ in Democracy
Emergency Day Observed at BJP State Office, Mapusa The Bharatiya Janata Party today observed Emergency Day at the BJP State Office in Mapusa, commemorating the dark chapter in India’s democratic history when the Emergency was imposed in 1975.
The programme was attended by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Deputy Speaker Shri Joshua D’Souza, District President Shri Dayanand Karbotkar, State Media Convenor Shri Siddesh Naik, Smt. Kunda Chodankar, Shri Tushar Kelkar, Shri Rupesh Kamat, and several party functionaries and karyakartas.
Welcoming the dignitaries and attendees, State Media Convenor Shri Siddesh Naik highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by countless citizens who fought to protect democracy during the Emergency period.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant spoke about the significance of safeguarding democratic values and constitutional rights. He emphasized that the Emergency remains a reminder of the importance of preserving freedom, democracy, and the rule of law in the country. Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade and Deputy Speaker Shri Joshua D’Souza also shared their thoughts on the impact of the Emergency and the need to educate younger generations about this important period in India’s history. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by District President Shri Dayanand Karbotkar, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, party leaders, and karyakartas for their participation in the observance.
