CALANGUTE: A large bhendi tree collapsed onto a residential house at Porbavaddo, Calangute on Tuesday, causing structural damage but leaving residents unharmed. The incident occurred during the day, with locals reporting a loud crash as the tree gave way and fell onto the roof and part of the house. The impact damaged the roof, walls, and household property. However, no injuries were reported as the occupants were either away or in unaffected parts of the house at the time.Ward members and neighbors rushed to the site soon after the collapse. The Calangute panchayat has been informed and is expected to assess the damage. Clearing operations are likely to begin shortly to remove the fallen tree and prevent further risk.Incidents of tree falls have been a recurring concern in coastal villages during the monsoon and pre-monsoon season, with ageing trees and water-logged soil increasing the risk of collapse.
