CM Pramod Sawant Inaugurates Restored Sakhali Fort in Sankhali; Push for Heritage Tourism
Sankhali: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the newly restored Sakhali Fort at Sankhali on Monday, at a function organised by the Department of Archaeology, Government of Goa.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the restoration of Sakhali Fort is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to preserve Goa’s rich historical legacy and promote heritage tourism. The fort, which had fallen into disrepair over the years, has been meticulously restored by the Department of Archaeology to revive its historical and architectural significance.Dr. Sawant emphasized that such restored sites will not only educate younger generations about Goa’s history but also create new opportunities for tourism and local employment. He urged citizens to take pride in the state’s heritage and support its conservation.

Officials from the Department of Archaeology stated that the restoration work included structural strengthening, conservation of original laterite masonry, and landscaping of the surrounding area to make it visitor-friendly. Information plaques detailing the fort’s history will also be installed.The function was attended by local MLAs, panchayat members, archaeology officials, and residents of Sankhali. A cultural programme showcasing Goan folk traditions was also held to mark the occasion.The restored Sakhali Fort will be open to the public from this week, with entry timings to be notified by the Department of Archaeology.
