VP Radhakrishnan Inaugurates Mario Miranda Exhibition at Kala Academy on Statehood Day
Panaji, May 29: Vice President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated an exhibition dedicated to Padma Vibhushan awardee and legendary Goan cartoonist Mario Miranda at the Kala Academy, Panaji, on Friday. The event was held on the sidelines of the 40th Goa Statehood Day celebrations.The exhibition, curated by the Department of Information and Publicity, showcases Miranda’s iconic sketches that captured Goan life, culture, and humour for over five decades. Rare originals, murals, and archival photographs tracing his journey from Loutolim to international acclaim are on display.
Unveiling the collection, the Vice President said Miranda’s pen was “a cultural bridge that took Goa’s unique identity to the world.” He added that art forms like cartooning preserve the soul of a society better than documents. Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, and other dignitaries toured the gallery after the inauguration.
The exhibition will remain open to the public at Kala Academy till June 5, with free entry from 10 AM to 7 PM.Art lovers thronged the venue, with many calling it a fitting tribute to the cartoonist on Goa’s Statehood Day.
