Panaji Mangrove Boardwalk to Be Dismantled; Mayor Cites ‘No Value’ in Current State
Panaji: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) plans to dismantle the mangrove boardwalk at Ourem Creek, with Mayor Rohit Monserrate stating that the structure “offers no value” in its present condition. The mayor pointed to safety hazards, recurring anti-social activities, and the poor state of the fire-damaged boardwalk as the main reasons for the decision. He added that while some well-maintained sections may be retained, the boardwalk as a whole is set to be removed.
Constructed under the Smart City Mission at a cost of over ₹2.27 crore, the project has faced mounting criticism over inadequate long-term maintenance.
