Aldona MLA praises fire brigade, electricity dept for prompt action after tree branch falls on Pomburpa temple
Mapusa: Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira appreciated the efforts of the Fire and Emergency Services personnel and the Electricity Department for their prompt action in clearing a fallen branch on a temple at Pomburpa on Tuesday.
Ferreira said that at Golna Vaddo in Pomburpa, where the Shantadurga Ravalnath Devasthan is located, early on Tuesday morning, a big tree branch collapsed on the shade and damaged it.
Without wasting time, the fire and emergency services were contacted, Ferreira said. It was a risky job, but they cleared the debris, while the power department also cleared the wires, he said.
“Disaster management also means prevention. I had informed the Chief Minister and the District Collector that under the disaster management plan, when a tree is about to fall and is a danger, preventive action can be taken. So I requested the fire brigade personnel to cut the other branches which are dried up. Normally such work is not on their agenda; they only work after something happens. I thank them for their assistance,” he said.
“While we are at home, the fire brigade personnel work tirelessly during the monsoon, be it a storm, etc, which is risky work, climbing trees to cut fallen branches and clearing fallen trees etc, to restore services. I also thank the Electricity Department for shutting down the power supply so that work could be undertaken,” he said.
