National Youth Parliament Opens at Goa University; Governors Raju, Arlekar Call for Active Citizenship
TALEIGAO, May 22, 2026 — Goa Governor Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, along with Kerala and Tamil Nadu Governor Shri Rajendra Arlekar, on Thursday attended the inaugural session of the two-day National Youth Parliament Goa 2026, held at Goa University.
Organised under the banner of National Youth Parliament Goa 2026, the event brought together students and young delegates from across the country to debate policy, governance, and national issues in a mock-parliament format. Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai and Priol MLA Shri Govind Gaude were also present, along with senior academicians, university officials, and youth leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Raju urged the youth to understand democratic processes and participate actively in nation-building. “Youth are not just the future of India, they are its present. Platforms like this sharpen leadership and responsibility,” he said.
Governor Arlekar highlighted the role of informed debate in a democracy and encouraged students to study constitutional values closely. “A strong parliament needs aware citizens. You are training for that role here,” he told delegates.
Minister Phal Dessai said the State Government is committed to creating more such platforms to engage youth in policy dialogue.
MLA Govind Gaude called the Youth Parliament a “training ground for tomorrow’s legislators.
”Over 300 students are participating in the two-day event, deliberating on themes including education, environment, technology, and social welfare. Best speakers and delegations will be felicitated at the valedictory session on Friday.Goa University Vice-Chancellor welcomed the dignitaries and said hosting the National Youth Parliament reflects the university’s focus on civic education and leadership development.
