Save Goa’s Biodiversity: 8-Foot Rangoli Drives Awareness at Amona Art Gallery

AMONA, May 22, 2026 — An 8-foot-long rangoli artwork highlighting Goa’s rich biodiversity was unveiled at Amaravati Art Gallery in Amona on Thursday to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity.

The rangoli, created by local artists, depicted Goa’s endangered flora and fauna, including the state animal Gaur, Olive Ridley turtles, and native mangrove species. The initiative aimed to draw public attention to the urgent need for conservation of the state’s fragile ecosystems.

Visitors at the gallery engaged with the artists and were briefed on threats to biodiversity from habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. Volunteers distributed pamphlets on simple steps citizens can take to protect local wildlife and habitats.

“Art connects with people instantly. Through this rangoli, we want to remind everyone that saving Goa’s biodiversity is a shared responsibility,” said  the artist from  Art Gallery. The exhibition will remain open to the public through the weekend.
