Vedanta IOG Recognised at 42nd Annual Mines Safety Week 2025-26

Goa, 21st May 2026: The 42nd Annual Mines Safety Week 2025-26 for the Goa, Sindhudurg and Kolhapur region, hosted this year by Fomento Resources, concluded in Goa with participation from leading mining companies, government officials and industry stakeholders.

The concluding ceremony was graced by Ramavatar Meena, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included Ramesh Walikar, Convener – Mines Safety & Productivity Council and Director of Mines Safety, Goa Region; Aftab Ahmad, Director of Mines Safety – Mining, West Zone, Nagpur; P. K. Jain, Director of Mines Safety – Mechanical, West Zone, Nagpur; T. Srinivas, Director of Mines Safety – Electrical, West Zone, Nagpur along with other esteemed dignitaries from the Mines Safety & Productivity Council.

Vedanta Iron And Steel Limited (VISL) – Iron Ore Goa (IOG) emerged as one of the standout participants during the event, being recognised for safe & responsible mining practices in 14 categories. The company received top honours in categories including Transportation, Haul Roads, Dust Suppression and Publicity & Propaganda, along with two prestigious second prizes for overall safety performance.

Addressing the gathering during the concluding ceremony, Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Dy. CEO – Iron Ore Goa, VISL and Vice President – Mines Safety & Productivity Council, Goa, Sindhudurg & Kolhapur, emphasized the importance of rebuilding the mining sector on a strong foundation of safety and sustainability. “Reopening of the mines has brought us renewed responsibility to rebuild operations on a strong safety culture, to ensure adherence to regulations and statutory compliances, to modernise operations through technology and digitisation, and to demonstrate to citizens that mining in Goa can be safe, sustainable and socially responsible.”

During the ceremony, the official handover for organising the next edition of the Annual Mines Safety Week was presented to VISL – IOG by Fomento Resources, marking VISL’s role as the host for the upcoming edition of the prestigious industry initiative.

Speaking at the ceremony, officials highlighted the gradual revival of Goa’s mining sector after nearly a decade-long halt in operations. It was noted that 17 mining blocks have been auctioned in Goa, with seven mines already being operationalised in phases since 2024, while several others are in the process of securing statutory permissions. The gathering committed itself to strict adherence to safety regulations, statutory compliances, adoption of modern technologies and sustainable mining practices.

The Annual Mines Safety Week serves as an important platform to promote safe mining practices, operational discipline and awareness across the mining ecosystem while reinforcing the sector’s commitment towards “Zero Harm” and sustainable mining practices.
