Banking Sector Key to Building Viksit Bharat: CM Dr. Pramod Sawant

Panaji, 14th May 2026: The 133rd State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) meeting was held at Taj Vivanta, Panaji. The meeting brought together senior officials from the banking sector, RBI, NABARD, and State Government departments. Discussions focused on banking performance, financial inclusion, credit growth, social security schemes, and priority sector lending. The meeting also reviewed initiatives related to entrepreneurship support and sustainable development.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that banks achieved 91 percent of the Annual Credit Plan target during the quarter ending March 2026. Against the target of ₹12,803 crore, loans worth ₹11,639 crore were disbursed, reflecting the banking sector’s strong contribution towards economic growth and development.

The progress of key social security schemes was also reviewed. Under PMJJBY, beneficiaries increased from 3,66,323 to 4,17,709, while enrolments under PMSBY rose from 10,54,098 to 12,12,608, highlighting the effective outreach of banks at the grassroots level.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister said, “The banking sector continues to play a crucial role in strengthening the vision of Viksit Bharat through financial inclusion and economic empowerment.” He urged banks to further strengthen support for farmers, fishermen, artisans, women’s self-help groups, entrepreneurs, students, and small businesses through timely credit and financial assistance.

CM Dr. Sawant also emphasized the importance of green energy and sustainable development, stating that initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and the Goa Government’s Chief Minister Free Electricity Scheme would contribute significantly towards building a sustainable future.

The meeting was attended by Dr. V. Kandavelu, Chief Secretary, Government of Goa; Mr. Prabhakar Jha, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India; Mrs. Bindu Janardhanan, General Manager, SBI and SLBC Convener; Mr. Sandeep Dharkar, General Manager, NABARD Goa; Mr. Shailendra Mishra, Deputy General Manager, SBI and SLBC Member Secretary; along with regional heads of various banks and senior government officials.
