CALANGUTE MLA STEPS IN TO TACKLE CALANGUTE–CANDOLIM WATER WOES
CALANGUTE: In a bid to resolve the persistent water shortage affecting parts of Calangute and Candolim, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Friday convened a high-level meeting with senior officials of the PWD Water Supply Department. Chief Engineer V. J. Bhende, Assistant Engineer Osley Paes, along with contractors, engineers and department officials, attended the review meeting held to assess the ground situation and chart out remedial measures.
Discussions centered on identifying immediate solutions to augment supply to the worst-hit pockets, streamlining distribution management, and strengthening coordination between field staff and contractors for faster response.
MLA Lobo stressed on the need for “timely relief to residents” as the peak summer demand continues to strain existing infrastructure in the tourism belt. Officials were directed to plug leakages, regulate tanker deployment, and ensure equitable distribution across wards until long-term augmentation works are completed.
The PWD team assured that problem areas are being mapped and emergency measures will be rolled out in phases. A follow-up review has been scheduled to monitor progress.
