TOURISM DEPT MOVES AGAINST CALANGUTE BEACH ENCROACHMENTS FOLLOWING HIGH COURT ORDER
CALANGUTE: Acting on High Court directions, the Tourism Department has launched an enforcement drive against alleged encroachments along the Calangute coastal belt, with several establishments already served notices.Officials said multiple shacks, structures, and extensions violating CRZ norms and license conditions have been identified during the ongoing survey. Action against violators is currently underway.
The drive follows court orders to clear illegal structures from Goa’s prime tourist coastline and restore public access to the beach. Teams from the Tourism Department, along with local authorities, began inspections this week and are mapping structures that have come up beyond permitted limits.
“Notices have been issued to several establishments. Further action, including removal of encroachments, will follow as per law,” a senior Tourism Department official said.
The Calangute-Candolim stretch, one of North Goa’s busiest tourist hubs, has faced repeated complaints of beach encroachments blocking public access and flouting coastal regulations.
