Rohan Khaunte opens Goa’s Draft AI Policy for public feedback

Delivered in 50 days, reinforcing the Government’s 100-day policy commitment

​Panaji, April 29, 2026: In a major step towards positioning the state as a global hub for high-tech innovation, the Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Shri. Rohan Khaunte, today officially released Goa’s draft Artificial Intelligence Policy for public consultation.

​The release of this draft document follows a series of intensive deliberations with industry leaders, academia and key stakeholders. Marking the fulfillment of a commitment made by the Minister to have a policy framework within a 100-day window, this draft has been ready within 50 days, demonstrating the state’s readiness for the AI era.

​Addressing the media at Paryatan Bhavan, Shri Rohan Khaunte said, “Today’s release of the draft AI policy is a testament to our commitment to making Goa a forward-looking, technology-driven state. On March 13, we promised a framework within 100 days and through the collaborative efforts of the ITE&C Department and our industry partners and academia, we have delivered a final draft document that is both practical and ambitious. This policy needs to be implemented in every sector be it finance, tourism or governance and hence, we’re keeping it in the public domain for everybody’s inputs.”

The Minister further highlighted that the primary goal of the policy is to ensure that technological advancements benefit the common citizen. By focusing on keeping Goa’s youth skilled and competitive, the state is committed to creating an AI policy that ranks among the best in the country. The draft policy focuses on AI skilling, development of AI startups, industry and innovative ecosystems, improving government and public services, creating infrastructure for AI and research. ​Under the Goa AI Mission 2027, this draft policy aims to leverage local talent, develop LLM models and also ensure safety and accountability.

During the interaction, the Minister also informed that the state is actively deliberating on restricting social media access for children under the age of 16. “We’re currently waiting for further inputs from stakeholders to refine how we promote AI-driven educational tools as a more productive alternative to social media. We will be sharing this document to our Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa to put forth to the Central government,” the Minister stated.

​The public are encouraged to review the AI Policy draft that will be available on the State Portal, Goa Online Portal and DITE&C website, from May 4, 2026 for a period of 15 days.
