Mapusa Fire service Team Prevents fire Spread to Bank
Mapusa : A hut near the Bank of Maharashtra branch at Xelin, Siolim, was gutted in a fire that broke out around 1:55 pm on Tuesday, triggering panic in the commercial area before Mapusa fire personnel brought it under control
According to Mapusa Fire Station officials, the fire call was received at 13:55 hrs and a fire tender was rushed to Xelin under Sub Officer Prakash Kannaik. The team reached the spot within minutes and began operations as flames had already engulfed the small structure, located close to shops and the bank premises. Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to adjacent buildings, including the Bank of Maharashtra branch and nearby houses.
No casualties were reported. The hut, used for storage and as a temporary dwelling, was completely destroyed.Sub Officer Kannaik said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. “
We contained it in time. Had the wind been stronger, it could have spread to the commercial establishments,” he said.
Locals helped alert the fire station and cleared the area for operations.The fire was fully doused by 2:40 pm. Police from Anjuna visited the site for panchanama.
Preliminary estimates peg the loss to items and stored material inside the hut. Officials said a short circuit or unattended cooking fire could be among the possible causes, pending a detailed inquiry. The incident caused brief traffic disruption on the Xelin road as onlookers gathered. Bank operations were unaffected and resumed after safety clearance from fire officials.
