CM Sawant Inaugurates ‘Swarankur’, Hails Student-Teacher Musical Collaboration in Sankhali
SANKHALI: Blending classroom learning with concert-stage confidence, ‘Swarankur’ — a musical programme featuring talented student and teacher artists — was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali, on Monday evening.
Organised by the Directorate of Art and Culture in collaboration with the Directorate of Education, Ravindra Bhavan Sankhali, Kala Academy, and Goa College of Music, the showcase aims to create a shared platform for young performers and their mentors to present classical, semi-classical, and folk traditions together.
Lighting the ceremonial lamp, Dr. Sawant said Swarankur reflects the government’s vision of “integrating arts with academics” under the New Education Policy. “When teachers and students perform together, it breaks barriers. Children learn discipline from music, and teachers stay inspired. This is how we keep Goa’s cultural roots alive,” CM said, addressing a packed auditorium.
The two-hour programme opened with a Saraswati Vandana by students of Goa College of Music, followed by teacher-student jugalbandis in Hindustani vocal, tabla, harmonium, and violin. A group of higher secondary students from Bicholim and Sattari presented Goan folk forms including mando and dhalo, rearranged with teacher accompaniment. “We have immense talent in schools. This gives them stage exposure and documents our guru-shishya tradition,” he said.
Director of Education Shailesh Zingde added that many school from North Goa participated in auditions, with students and teachers selected. “NEP encourages art-integrated learning. Swarankur takes it beyond textbooks,” he said.
Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan Sankhali, officials from Kala Academy, faculty of Goa College of Music, and local MLAs were present.
