South Goa DM Reviews Mental Health Measures at BITS Pilani, Calls for Sustained Monitoring

Kushavati: A meeting of the District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) on Mental Health and Prevention of Suicide in Higher Education Institutions was held under the chairpersonship of Ms. Egna Cleetus, IAS, District Magistrate, South Goa, H/c Kushavati Districts, in the presence of Shri Bhushan Savaikar, Director of Higher Education, to review initiatives undertaken at BITS Pilani. Officials from the Department of Health, Social Welfare, Law, Tribal Welfare, Technical Education and IPHB, along with the Director and Professors of BITS Pilani, were also present for the meeting. The Director, BITS Pilani, presented measures including introduction of yoga in the curriculum, strengthening of sports and physical activities, extension of gymnasium hours, conduct of health camps and motivational sessions and provision of 24×7 counselling support through Tele-MANAS and Myndwell. The Chairperson directed all concerned to ensure close coordination and sustained monitoring, with focused efforts towards strengthening mental health support systems and promoting overall student well-being.
