MLA  Inspects Sinquerim Stretch Ahead of Footpath, Drainage Works

Candolim: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on wednesday  carried out an inspection of the Sinquerim road stretch from Calizz to Taj, marking the start of infrastructure upgrades aimed at easing tourist and local traffic ahead of the monsoon. During the site visit, officials marked alignments for a new footpath, designated parking bays, and drainage improvements. Clearing of roadside vegetation and debris along the busy coastal road is already in progress to prepare the area for civil works.

“The stretch from Calizz to Taj sees heavy footfall, especially during season. Without a proper footpath, tourists and locals are forced to walk on the road. The new drainage will also prevent waterlogging near hotels,” Lobo said during the inspection.

The proposed footpath will run along one side of the Sinquerim road, a key link connecting Candolim and Calangute to five-star resorts including the Taj and other beachfront properties. Parking bays are being planned to address haphazard vehicle parking that often chokes traffic during weekends and holidays.

Officials from the Public Works Department and local panchayat accompanied the MLA. Lobo directed that roadside clearing be expedited so that work on drains and footpath foundation can begin before pre-monsoon showers.

The MLA said tenders for the footpath and drainage works would be floated shortly and assured that the project would be monitored to avoid delays. “We want the basic infrastructure ready before the peak season returns,” he added.
