Panaji: Easter, commemorating the resurrection of Lord Jesus from the dead, was observed across Goa with pomp and religious fervor on Sunday . Easter Sunday saw religious services and community gatherings marking the conclusion of Lent, with several churches across the state witnessing large congregations attending Mass and receiving blessed holy water.
According to Christian belief, Easter commemorates the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day after he was crucified on the cross. Easter is also regarded as the principal feast of the liturgical calendar as it marks the end 40 days of Lent, a period traditionally marked by fasting and abstinence. Markets in Mapusa reported higher demand for poultry and cashew-based products. The celebrations extended beyond religious rites, with some youth also distributing Easter eggs to children. Traffic police were posted to keep a check on traffic movement to prevent any untoward incidents.
