“Calangute Villagers Sound Alarm Over Illegal Excavation, Biodiversity Destruction on Boa Viagem Hill”
Calangute: A raging battle is unfolding in Calangute, as the Calangute constituency forum rise against the wanton destruction of Boa Viegm Hill’s lush green cover and biodiversity. A porcelain excavator was spotted tearing through the hill’s natural forest, cutting trees and constructing a 6-meter-wide road sans permission, sparking outrage among residents.
The Village Panchayat Calangute has confirmed the illegal activity, with Sarpanch Shri Joseph R. Sequeira stating, “A poclain excavator machine was used on the top of the hill above the water tank behind Boa Viagem at Naika Vaddo, Calangute, to construct an illegal road and cut trees, destroying the forest in Survey No. 29/2.” The Panchayat has lodged a complaint with the Calangute Police Station, seeking stern action against the perpetrators.

The plea demands seizure of machinery, restoration of the damaged area, and a detailed environmental impact assessment. The excavator’s keys have been handed over to the authorities. Villagers warn of escalating the matter if urgent action isn’t taken to protect their natural heritage. “The destruction of Boa Viegm Hill is a threat to our ecosystem and future generations,” echoes the sentiment the Calangute constituency forum . Will the authorities act before it’s too late? said President of the Calangute constituency forum Premanand Divkar
