“Calangute Panchayat Seals 7 Tattoo Shops, Restaurants Operating Without Permission”
Calangute: The Calangute panchayat on Friday sealed seven tattoo shop premises on the Calangute beach promenade and a restaurant in Khobravaddo for illegal activities and operating without valid permissions. Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said the village panchayat has also taken a resolution to shut down three wholesale liquor stores on the beach promenade to stop tourists drinking alcohol on the beach.
Sequeira said the seven tattoo shops on the promenade were found to be harassing tourists and cheating them of huge amounts of money with false promises and offers of illegal activities. They were sealed as they were operating without valid permissions, he said.
Sapnesh Vaigankar, ward member, said, “Acting on complaints and concerns from locals, ‘Sigdi’ restaurant in Khobravaddo, Calangute beach was sealed in the presence of sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, secretary Arjun Velip and the police, due to regulatory violations and several notorious activities. We will continue working to maintain safety and order in our village”.
Sequeira said the drive would continue, adding that the VP has also taken a resolution to shut down three wholesale liquor stores on the promenade. “We are going to write to the excise department to cancel the excise licences of these shops,” he said.
