Pilerne March 2026: The Museum of Goa (MOG), Pilerne, will, on Sunday (March 15), host On Furniture Design – The Palakkad Chair, featuring artist and designer Nityan Unnikrishnan, who will explore the story behind the Palakkad Chair, as part of the museum’s MOG Sunday lecture series.
Inspired by the work of American woodworker and architect, George Nakashima, the wood-and-cane chair gradually evolved through multiple iterations and later developed into the Palakkad Chair in collaboration with Phantom Hands, a modern furniture major. The conversation will trace the journey of the design and reflect on the intersections of craft, tradition, and contemporary furniture-making.
Nityan Unnikrishnan is an artist whose practice spans painting, design, and collaborations with traditional artisans across India. Before establishing himself as a painter, he trained in industrial design, worked as a ceramic designer, and explored furniture-making. His work has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions over the past decade and is currently on view at the 6th Kochi Muziris Biennale in Kerala.
