“Hashish Oil Smuggling Foiled at Colvale Jail, Woman Arrested”
PANAJI: A woman aged around 23 year old was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle hashish oil into the Colvale jail. However, the Colvale police have arrested a young woman for allegedly attempting to hand over a narcotic contraband substance into the Central jail at Colvale in North District on March 6.
The alleged accused has been identified as Tanvi Polji, a resident of Mapusa.
According to police, the incident occurred on March 6 when Polji visited the jail to meet an undertrial prisoner, Sunil Madkaikar.
During the meeting, she allegedly handed over a contraband substance suspected to be hashish oil to the prisoner.
However, alert jailer noticed the suspicious activity and immediately intervened.
The jail staff seized the contraband, which weighed approximately 10 grams and is estimated to be worth around Rs10,000 in the illegal drug market.
Following the seizure, the matter was reported to Colvale police, who registered an offence under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is in progreess.
