Saucony stages London endurance event

London’s Peckham became the epicentre of a “high-intensity night of competition”, at the weekend with running clubs from across Europe competing in sportswear brand Saucony’s specialist endurance event, while also putting the Wolverine World Wide-owned brand’s Endorphin Azura sports shoe to the test.
Following the success of its debut event in Paris last year, London’s ‘The Maze ZE:RO HO:UR’ edition “tested and celebrated the communities shaping modern running culture”. The result was an “unforgettable night of competition, community and collective energy”, with teams completing from London, Nottingham, Paris, Toulouse, Berlin, Milan, Oslo and Gothenburg.

Set within an industrial warehouse space in Peckham, south London, the event challenged crews to “perform under pressure as race rules and course details were revealed only moments before the start”.
Built on unpredictability, the format “stripped racing back to instinct and adaptability, pushing athletes to rely on teamwork, decision-making and resilience as much as speed”.

The race followed a live, time-trial format “designed to test both endurance and teamwork”. As the race progressed, teams were gradually eliminated, with only the top crews advancing to a final stage. The winning team was determined by the greatest total distance covered over the 60-minute race.

The winning crew was MTF (Milan) with 38.1km covered and Peckham Pacers (London) was second with 36 km covered, followed by Beaubien (Toulouse) who were third with 35.4km covered.

Cameron Black, VP EMEA at Saucony, said: “The [event] is about far more than racing. It’s a celebration of the communities that are shaping modern running culture – crews who bring creativity and energy to the sport in cities across Europe.

“At Saucony, community has always been central to who we are, and events like this allow us to create exciting spaces where runners can connect, compete and run as one.”
