Divar Islanders Unite to Defend Sacred Crematorium”
DIVAR: Amchi Shamshan Bhoomi Amka Zai! Amchi Shamshan Bhoomi Amka Zai!! Amchi Shamshan Bhoomi Amka Zai!!! rented the air in the Divar Island and ruptured the ears drums of the authorities. After Chimbel, Panaji, St Andre and now it’s the turn of the Divarkars to oppose the mega project which tries to take shape silently in the silent and quiet island but there also voices were raised by the locals against the project.
“Do not trouble us if you try to interfere, we will not hesitate to sacrifice our lives for the sake of the crematorium, do not provoke us and create law and order problems,” thundered the local leaders.
“Do not try to interfere in our religious matters, consult us and convene a meeting and only then go ahead with the project and we need to preserve and protect for posterity.
Local residents of Divar Island, Akhada, Vanshi, Zuyem, Ribandar and others are opposing the demolition of a crematorium on the river bank at Narve.
They alleged that it had been there since ages and our ancestors had patronised it and even they do not know when and in which year it was dedicated for cremation of bodies from surrounding areas of Divar. Let your project be there but do not touch our ancestral crematorium located on the bank of the river as it was easier for them to float the mortal remains in the water.” they pointed.. They have started this project without our knowledge and without our consent and urged the chief minister, Dr Pramod Sawant and the local MLA not to interfere in Divar Island. They even threatened to sleep there on the spot ( in Crematorium) when they tried to demolish it.
