“Goa Joins Nationwide HPV Vaccination Drive to Combat Cervical Cancer”

Panaji: Secretary (Health),  Yatindra M. Maralkar, IAS along with Director, Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Dr. Rupa Naik & others participated in the virtual launch program of the National Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Campaign against cervical cancer by Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi.

This campaign aims to provide free HPV vaccinations to adolescent girls, targeting those aged 14, to prevent cervical cancer

The HPV vaccine protects against high-risk HPV types, particularly 16 and 18, responsible for most cervical cancer cases. India has secured Gardasil, a quadrivalent HPV vaccine, for this national program, which will be administered in two doses. Cervical cancer is the  most common cancer among Indian women, with new cases and deaths reported annually. The vaccination drive seeks to address this significant health burden.
