Porvorim Senior citizen Falls Prey to SBI Imposter Scam, Loses ₹4.66 Lakh in Cyber Heist”
PORVORIM: Porvorim police have registered a First Information Report against an unknown person for allegedly duping a senior citizen from Porvorim, residing in Journalists Colony, of Rs 4.66 lakh, stated a police official from Porvorim police station.
The police inspector investigating the case revealed that the unknown person allegedly impersonated a State Bank of India official and duped the senior citizen of Rs 4.66 lakh by gaining control of his mobile handset and making two online banking transactions.
Mr A B, a retired person presently staying at Samarth Bungalow, Journalist Colony, Porvorim, lodged a complaint via the 1930 cyber crime portal, alleging that an unknown person using the number 92177227538 fraudulently made two transactions using internet banking: Rs 95,000 and Rs 3,71,599 from his account, cheating him of Rs 4,66,599.
The police informed that both fraudulent transactions were made from HDFC Bank, and the offence has been registered under sections 318(4), 319(2) BNS 2023, and section 66(D) of the IT Act.
