GFDC Holds First Council Meeting Under New Chairman Glenn Ticlo
PANAJI: The Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) held its first council meeting on Thursday , under the leadership of its newly appointed Chairman, Glenn Ticlo. The meeting marked an important step towards strengthening football development across the state, with a clear focus on grassroots growth, infrastructure development, and professional capacity building.
Several key decisions and strategic directions were discussed during the meeting, including the appointment of a Technical Director to oversee football development programmes and ensure uniform technical standards across all GFDC initiatives. The council also deliberated on the opening of GFDC North and South Academies, aimed at providing structured training opportunities to young footballers across different regions of Goa.
The meeting placed strong emphasis on improving football infrastructure, ensuring the availability of quality equipment, and conducting regular coaches’ workshops. Upgradation of coaching licences and continuous education for coaches were identified as priority areas to enhance overall coaching standards in the state.
Strengthening of GFDC staff was another important agenda item. The council also discussed evaluating the performance of existing coaches and hiring new, passionate coaches committed to long-term football development in Goa.
Speaking after the meeting, GFDC Chairman Glenn Ticlo said, “Our vision is to build a strong and sustainable football ecosystem in Goa. This first council meeting was focused on putting the right systems in place — from technical leadership to infrastructure and coaching quality — so that Goan footballers receive the best possible support.”
Highlighting the importance of regional reach, he added, “The proposed North and South academies will help us decentralise football development and ensure that talent from every part of Goa gets equal opportunities to grow.”
On the role of coaches, Ticlo stated, “Coaches are the backbone of football development. We are committed to regular workshops, licence upgradation and performance evaluations, while also inducting new, passionate coaches who share our vision for Goan football.”
The Goa Football Development Council reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to take Goan football to greater heights in the coming years
