CM Pramod Sawant Champions Wetland Conservation at Karapur
Karapur, Goa: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant emphasized Goa’s commitment to protecting its rich natural heritage, announcing plans to identify more wetlands for conservation at the State-level celebration of World Wetlands Day 2026. The event, organized by the Goa State Wetland Authority, brought together dignitaries, including MLA Premendra Vishnu Shet, to highlight the importance of wetland ecosystems.
Dr. Sawant stressed the need for coordinated action and community participation in wetland conservation, citing initiatives like the salt pan conservation scheme and specialized agencies for wetland ground-truthing. Goa currently has 44 identified wetlands, with 25 notified under the central act, and 19 more awaiting notification ¹ ².
