Union Budget 2026–27 Boost for Regional Healthcare, Big Opportunity for Goa: Surendra Prasad

Welcoming the Union Budget 2026–27, Surendra Prasad, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital Goa, said the proposal to establish five regional medical hubs across the country is a significant step towards strengthening India’s healthcare ecosystem.

“The creation of integrated medical hubs comprising advanced hospitals, diagnostics, rehabilitation, and wellness facilities will help decentralise quality healthcare and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for specialised treatment. This approach will ensure timely and accessible care closer to home,” he said.

Highlighting the Goa perspective, Prasad noted that the announcement presents a major opportunity for the state. “Goa already has a strong foundation in tourism and wellness. Strengthening healthcare infrastructure through such regional hubs can position Goa as a preferred destination for medical and wellness tourism, benefiting both residents and visitors,” he added.

He further stated that the emphasis on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models and national insurance coverage will accelerate infrastructure development while keeping healthcare affordable. “This move brings us closer to achieving equitable, timely, and quality healthcare for all,” he concluded.
