Fire Services Rush to Spot as Drowning Incident Claims Life near Badem-Assagao’s Tranquil Waters

Mapusa: A somber mood gripped the village of Badem as a person succumbed to the currents of the river near  Badem-Assagao. The incident, reported at 13:57 hrs, prompted a swift response from the Mapusa Fire Station, which rushed to the scene.

Fire personnel deployed rescue boats and initiated search operations, working to retrieve the victim from the river. The body was later conveyed to Suraj Shetgaonkar, Local Fisheries Officer, for further procedures.

sources confirmed that it is Vinayak Mandrekar (50, r/o Uddo Vado, Chapora), who passed away while collecting clamshells (khube) near the seashore behind Nomma Hotel, Badem-Siolim, on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, Mandrekar had gone to the sea around 1:30 pm and was later found collapsed in knee-deep water. Local residents rushed him to the Primary Health Centre, Siolim, where doctors declared him dead. The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
