RC Goa beat Dempo Challengers; Manas Mavericks register thrilling win

Panaji: Manas Mavericks and RC Goa recorded victories on Sunday in the Panaji Gymkhana-organised PGML 5.0 cricket tournament at the Panjim Gymkhana ground, Campal-Panaji. Manas Mavericks edged past Sun Estate Warriors by one wicket in a nail-biting morning encounter, while RC Goa later defeated Dempo Challengers by four wickets.

In the first match of the day, opener Abhijit Bhandare(34) offered some resistance as Sun Estate Warriors struggled early and were reduced to 62 for 6. Mehank Dharwadkar then staged a recovery with an unbeaten 43 off 31 balls, including two fours and a six. He added 38 runs for the eighth wicket with Sumiran Mehta (22 off 17 balls) to lift Sun Estate Warriors to 163 for 8 in 20 overs. For Manas Mavericks, Ajinkya Kudtarkar was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 32 runs.
Chasing 164, Manas Mavericks were led by a blistering knock from Dishank Prabhu Misquin, who smashed 49 off 29 balls with five fours and a six. The match went down to the wire, with the Mavericks needing 17 runs in the final over and seven off the last two balls. Mahendra Pai Kuchelkhar rose to the occasion, hammering a six off the penultimate delivery bowled by Rohit Rane and then scampering a single off the last ball to seal a dramatic one-wicket victory.

In the second match, Dempo Challengers posted 144 for 8 in their 20 overs. Vedant Naik top-scored with 38, while Ameet Kakode made 35 and opener Vishesh Behl contributed 31. Nakul Mhamal was the most successful bowler for RC Goa, finishing with figures of 3 for 17.
RC Goa’s chase got off to a shaky start as they slipped to 34 for 3, but Aryan Mashelkar steadied the innings with a timely 48 off 40 balls. Ramnath Gaonkar provided the impetus with a quick 28 off 11 balls, before an unbroken 46-run partnership between Shubham Lokre (34*) and Paras Naik (24*) guided RC Goa to 148 for 6 in 18.4 overs, sealing a comfortable four-wicket win.
