RC Goa, Priority Titans notch wins in PGML 5.0

Panaji: RC Goa and Priority Titans registered convincing victories in the Panaji Gymkhana-organised PGML 5.0 tournament on Saturday at the Panaji Gymkhana ground, Campal.

In the first match of the day, RC Goa outplayed Sun Estate Warriors by 54 runs. Opting to bowl after winning the toss, Sun Estate were put under pressure as RC Goa posted a commanding 199 for 7 in their 20 overs. Openers Sachin Sardessai (35) and Megh Netravalkar (45) laid a solid foundation with an 82-run stand. The middle order kept the momentum going with Vardhan Prabhu Misquin (38)and skipper Rajshekhar Harikant (34) making vital contributions, while Gauresh Khandeparkar added a brisk 26 to push the total close to 200. For Sun Estate, Dhilan Shah was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 28.
Chasing a stiff target, Sun Estate Warriors lost wickets at regular intervals and never really threatened the total. Sahish Mahambrey fought a lone battle with 40, but the chase faltered as Rajshekhar Harikant starred with the ball as well, returning impressive figures of 3 for 24, to seal a comfortable win for RC Goa.

The second match produced a more intense contest, where Priority Titans edged past Desserts N More Avengers by 16 runs. After electing to bat, Priority Titans scored 166 for 5 in 20 overs, thanks largely to a strong opening partnership between Jaipal Mada (46) and Adeep Prabhu Miskin (37), which yielded 92 runs. Heramb Shankar Parab chipped in with an unbeaten 23 off 14 balls to take the team past the 160 mark. Ojas was the most successful bowler for the Avengers, claiming 2 for 24.
In reply, Desserts N More Avengers got off to a promising start with opener Ojas striking a fluent 55 off 36 balls, while Nityay Kunkolienkar added 37. At one stage, the Avengers looked well placed at 94 for 1, but a dramatic collapse saw them slip to 97 for 4 within a few deliveries. The innings folded for 150 with nine balls remaining, handing Priority Titans a hard-fought victory.
