MAPUSA GETS STATE-OF-THE-ART BANANA RIPENING CHAMBER
Mapusa: A major boost for North Goa’s banana trade! The state government has established a scientific ripening chamber in Mapusa, aimed at ensuring safe, nutritious, and chemical-free bananas reach consumers. This facility, constructed under the National Horticulture Mission with 35% central funding, can handle 60 tons of bananas every four days ¹ ².
The chamber uses ethylene gas in controlled environments to ripen bananas hygienically, reducing wastage and enhancing farmers’ income. This is a scientific way of ripening bananas, making them safe for consumption,
The facility has compartments, catering to varying quantities and ripening schedules, and is expected to benefit local vendors and private farmers alike. With around 10-12 tons of bananas arriving daily at the Mapusa market yard, this chamber is a game-changer for the industry
