Chimbel Panchayat Unites Against Unity Mall Proposal

The Chimbel Sarpanch, Sandesh Shirodkar, and other Panch members have pledged to support the village’s rejection of the proposed Unity Mall project. Shirodkar emphasized the Panchayat’s commitment to prioritizing community consent, stating, “If the public doesn’t want this project, we’ll stand with them and scrap it.”

Villagers have been protesting the project, citing concerns over the potential harm to the Toyyar Lake ecosystem and the impact on the tribal community’s livelihoods. The protest includes a hunger strike and ongoing legal battles.

The proposed project also includes a 17-storey administrative tower, which has added to local concerns. The Panchayat’s stance is seen as a significant development in the villagers’ fight against the project.
