Drishti Marine Lifesavers Rescued Five from Drowning off Goa Coast During Weekend; Two Missing Children Traced

~ A 13-year-old boy was administered first aid by Drishti Marine lifesavers following a jellyfish sting off Benaulim beach.

Panajim January 2026 – Five persons were rescued from drowning along Goa’s popular coastline over the weekend, even as Goa’s government-appointed beach safety force, Drishti Marine, traced two missing children and administered first aid in three instances, including to a 13-year-old boy who was stung by a jellyfish off Benaulim beach.

Arambol beach: A 31-year-old male tourist from Karnataka was rescued after facing difficulty while swimming in the sea. Lifesaver Harshad Chandekar conducted the rescue operation using a rescue board, with support from another lifesaver, Raghvendra Kaskar, on a jet ski. The victim was brought safely to shore.

Ashwem beach: A four-year-old boy from Belgaum in Karnataka was reported missing from Ashwem beach, following which a coordinated search was initiated by on-duty lifesavers. The child was eventually located at another part of the same beach by lifesaver Hiren Keluskar. He was safely handed over to his guardians after following the identification protocol.

Calangute beach: A 45-year-old male tourist from Karnataka entered deep water off the beach and was unable to return to shore due to a lateral rip current. Lifesaver Shubham Mukhiya noticed the victim in distress and, along with Shivam Rajbhar, carried out a timely rescue using a rescue tube. A seven-year-old boy from Kolhapur was also reported missing at the same beach. He was traced at the adjoining Candolim beach following a search operation that lasted for nearly half an hour. He was safely reunited with his family after verification.

Benaulim beach: Two women tourists aged 25 and 29 from Bengaluru were rescued after encountering difficulty while swimming. Lifesavers Guitesh Gaonkar and Eshwar Malik conducted the rescue using a rescue tube. Both victims were safely brought ashore and were found to be in stable condition. At the same beach, a 13-year-old boy from West Bengal sustained a jellyfish sting on his right leg while swimming. Lifesaver Suraj Joshi directed the victim to the tower, where Captain Naresh Gaonkar administered first aid. The boy’s condition stabilised after treatment.

Palolem beach: A 30-year-old male tourist from Jharkhand sustained a deep cut on his right leg after slipping in a rocky area while walking by with a group of friends. Lifesaver Vasant Kamble administered first aid on-site and advised the victim to consult a doctor for further medical evaluation. Palolem beach witnessed the rescue of a 79-year-old male tourist from Karnataka, who experienced difficulty while standing in neck-deep water. Lifesaver Parshuram Tari noticed the victim gesturing for help and rescued him using a rescue tube. As the victim had breathing difficulties, oxygen support was administered, and he was later shifted to hospital via a 108 ambulance. His condition is reported to be stable. A 30-year-old male tourist from Rajasthan slipped and fell in a rocky area near the same beach, sustaining injuries to his hand and leg. Lifesaver Vithoba Velip provided immediate first aid at the tower. The victim was stabilised after treatment.
