In-depth Study of Caranzalem Fish Pollution Case Necessary: Babush Monserrate

Revenue Minister Babush Monserrate firmly stated that hasty conclusions should not be drawn regarding the alleged pollution of fish, and that a thorough study of the entire matter by scientists and experts is essential. He also clarified that this issue is creating an atmosphere of fear among local citizens and fishermen, which needs to be avoided.
He said that he would discuss this matter with the Fisheries Minister and demanded that the Fisheries Department take the initiative to conduct scientific testing of water samples, fish samples, and environmental factors in the area. He also suggested that the Pollution Control Board, marine biology experts, and relevant research institutions should be involved in this investigation.

Minister Monserrate said that if pollution is found during the investigation, strict action will be taken against those responsible, and immediate measures will be implemented to prevent pollution. However, he added that it is not appropriate to spread fear until the report is released, and it is the government’s responsibility to maintain public trust. He also clarified that the Fisheries Department should maintain transparency and make all reports public.
Monserrate said that fishing in Caranzalem is the main source of livelihood for many families. Making statements about pollution without any laboratory testing, scientific reports, or expert opinions can cause significant financial losses to the fishermen. Therefore, instead of spreading rumors, information based on facts should be presented to the public, he noted.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that this issue is affecting fish sales in the local market, directly impacting fishermen and vendors. Therefore, Minister Monserrate firmly stated that it is extremely important to clarify the true situation as soon as possible and restore public trust.
